This High Port Bit by Quick Bits gives the horse time to think before the bit is fully engaged. The copper center cricket gives the horse something to play with which helps alleviate bored or nervous behaviors. A quality, handmade western bit.
The Mike Quick High Port Bit has a 5" stainless steel mouthpiece with high port copper covered cricket and 7" dual cheeks. This design works on the lower portion of horse's mouth. Copper cover provides contact with horses palate. When reins are used, horse has advance notice of pressure being applied. When horse brings cricket into play, it relaxes the lower jaw, giving more flexibility in head and neck. Since 1940, Mike Quick has been making top quality, handcrafted bits. Quick roped on a professional level for over 20 years. Through his experience, Quick knows what makes a successful bit.

I have used a Quick Bit for several years now, after a horse trainer put 60 days on a 3 year-old filly for me back in 2009. I was very skeptical at first in using something like this right from the start on a 3 year-old, and had fully expected him to be using some kind of large-ring, gentle snaffle. However, I found that the trainer was absolutely right about the Quick Bit! It is very well made and are surprisingly mild, but effective. That mare is now 9, and she still does great in that same exact bit.
